frequently asked  questions

You may need to submit a tax return if you are self-employed, a company director, receive untaxed income, or have multiple income sources. We review your situation and confirm exactly what needs to be filed, whether that is self-assessment, corporation tax, or both.

We tailor this to how you trade. Typically, we need income records, expenses, bank statements, and VAT information if registered. If your records are incomplete, we help organise and correct them so your returns are accurate and compliant.

We apply all allowable expenses, reliefs, and VAT reclaims available to your business. Our role is to file correctly and to ensure you are not overpaying tax or VAT while staying fully compliant with HMRC rules.

VAT registration is compulsory once your taxable turnover exceeds the current VAT threshold within a 12-month period. We monitor your figures, advise when registration is required, and help you register at the right time to avoid penalties or missed opportunities.

Yes. Sole traders, freelancers, and contractors can register for VAT. We advise whether registration is beneficial for your business, which VAT scheme may suit you best, and how VAT will affect pricing and cash flow.

No. You must be VAT registered to reclaim VAT. However, if you are registering, we can advise whether VAT on recent purchases can be reclaimed and ensure claims are made correctly where allowed.

You can usually reclaim VAT on goods and services used exclusively for business purposes. If you work from home, this may include a proportion of utilities or equipment. We assess what is allowable and ensure claims are accurate and defensible.

You can only claim VAT from VAT registered suppliers. VAT cannot usually be reclaimed on personal expenses, most entertaining costs, or goods and services not used for business purposes. We provide clear guidance so you avoid incorrect claims and future HMRC challenges.

Missing deadlines can result in penalties and interest. If this happens, we help bring your filings up to date, deal with HMRC where needed, and put systems in place to prevent future issues.

If payment is a concern, we can advise on HMRC Time to Pay arrangements and help you plan cash flow around upcoming liabilities. Early advice often reduces stress and potential penalties.
